By integrating functionalism (as the structural prerequisite for cognition), neuroscience (as the mapping of correlates), and phenomenology (as the qualitative anchor), we can move beyond the reductive stalemate. I contend that while functionalism cannot constitute consciousness, it provides the essential architecture upon which phenomenal qualia emerge.
